Some things just catch your fancy.
Like a Mule and Donkey Show.
or how about a Pony Show?
I was reading through the events section on Northernhorse when it struck me that these might be fun “things to do” for almost anyone.
Alberta Long Ears Days 2018 is happening on August 11 & 12 at the Red Lodge Guest Ranch, 11 km west of Bowden, AB on Sec Hwy 587. Strictly a Donkey and Mule show, you are sure to see some interesting equine and human characters.
This is the longest running Mule & Donkey Show in Canada. Come on out for a pleasant Sunday drive in Central Alberta and an interesting show for the whole family.

Then I noticed another really interesting family event happening the same weekend a little further north near Leduc, AB. It is the 2018 Wild Rose Welsh & Open Pony Show. August 10 – 12, 2018.
Centered on Welsh. Open to all.
Location: Amberlea Meadows Equestrian Centre, Leduc County, AB
Website: www.piperp13.wixsite.com/wildroseshow (all show forms found here)
This is a family-friendly show with competitive and fun classes for all ages and skill levels. A variety of in-hand, riding, and driving classes are offered—from Welsh breed, Sport Pony, and Model Hunter halter classes to English, Western, Hunter, Sidesaddle, and gymkhana ridden classes to driving, trail, showmanship, and costume.
Classes for Welsh Ponies and Cobs, alongside many open classes—registered and unregistered ponies and horses are most welcome.
We’re betting there are some heart stealing little ponies going to show up at this event. This is not only interesting for kids who already have horses in their lives but also a great place to introduce your kids to ponies and horses. You don’t have to be a rider to enjoy the beauty of a horse.
